Pakistani Girls Rule Facebook

For millions of university students, Facebook has become a fact of life; it is a vast source of social stimulation that showcases the glamorous and interesting aspects of our everyday lives. It is now part and parcel of our daily routine that has completely changed our life, or in fact I should say have given us a new life. For every person there are two identities –first, being the real identity and second, the virtual facebook identity. It has helped us to connect with the existing friends, make new ones and be updated about them. But there is one thing that Mark and face book has done in Pakistan which neither our social reformers, nor Politicians could do and that is – “It has given higher status to women or much more beyond it in our second virtual world”.

My intention here is not to criticize Ms. Ambreen or any other girl posting pictures (I do respect them), but what bothers me is the growing number of fake women profiles and this gender discrimination.  So what makes a guy go to extent of losing his masculinity in face book???
As William James once said:  "the deepest principle in human nature is the craving to get appreciated".
Girls do get their desired share of appreciation for their pictures, status, comments or anything they scribble on facebook.
But when it comes to boys they are starved of the appreciation they deserve and even if they do, it depends on their nature and the social circle possessed by the boy more than the content he posts.
For Example:

It is every individual’s right to like what he/she likes, but i just request everyone to
"Save the boy child and do like their filthy pictures before they get extinct on facebook".

P.S.  Boys getting more than 75 likes for their DP’s should surely go for modeling.

How to increase your Laptop Battery's Life?

Today almost all the students have their own Laptops (thanks to Mian Shahbaz Sharif) but they are having the problems with battery life of their laptops which can affect their study and work. Earlier Laptops had 2-3 hrs. Battery life but now big companies are investing heavily on design of their laptop's battery life. A modern laptop has battery life up to 5-6 hours. Well, there are plenty of battery suckers present in your laptop. One has to agree with the fact that the advancement in technology is making us dependent on it. Definitely laptop is one of the biggest devices we just can't do without these days and also you cannot stand your laptop giving less backup. You can’t carry on with the quick wiping out of battery power.  The rapid battery exhaustion leaves you clueless regarding what drains the battery most? Care has to be taken as battery life is the most important and certainly can't be replaced very frequently. Here I have written some tips to improve battery life of your Laptop.

  • Defrag on a regular basis.
  • The faster the hard drive performs, lesser is the burden sited on the battery. Therefore, defrag in order to make your hard drive efficient.
  • There are lots of programs that are always running in the task-bar such as firewall, antivirus, etc. Shutting them down while you aren’t working on the internet would be beneficial.
  • All USB devices are the worst battery power drainers. Unplug them all when not in use. From an external mouse to iPod, all of these devices consume battery power like hell.
  • Spinning CD/DVD drives are the major battery suckers. They consume battery power even when they aren’t active. Even if you have one, get rid of it.
  • Dim the LCD light. They consume battery power much above your assumption. Modify your settings and bring them down to the lowest level you can bear.
  • Put the speaker on the mute mode when not in use. Installed sound schemes play a huge role in wiping out the charge of your laptop battery.
  • Screen savers are prime battery suckers. Deactivate or switch off the screensaver in order to maximize battery life.
  • Both XP and Windows 7 is en suited with advanced power management features, make the most of it. There you can find lot of options to choose from. Manage, control and modify settings in order to maximize battery life. Set it up so that power usage is optimized.
  • Hibernate and not standby. Hibernating will save power alongside shutting the laptop itself while standby mode will slow down the CPU and ooze out battery life to keep everything in memory.
  • Do not simultaneously run two or more programs. Keeping too many files and programs in the taskbar will weaken the battery. Do not run those many files while you are working on one or two.
  • Process more with the memory your laptop has by adding more RAM. You won’t have to rely on virtual memory which is less power efficient. RAM consumes more energy thus, it is recommendable if you require running of memory intensive programs.
  • Keep the air vents clean. If the air vents are blocked it will generate more heat leading to battery exhaustion.
  • Do not leave your laptop under direct sunlight. Too much heat will kill your battery, slowly by surely. Avoid leaving it in a jam-packed environment.
  • Do not recharge your battery repeatedly. Discharge the entire battery power and then plug in charger. Avoid recharging when the battery is only partially discharged. Recharging the partial discharged battery will destroy battery life.
  • Keep updating software’s and drivers. This is because newly launched software’s and drivers are less resource hungry and more efficient.
  • Always use original adapters. Make sure that the adapter you are using is the original one and has correct specifications. If not, then it will deplete the battery as well as your laptop.
  • If you don’t plan to use your laptop for quite some time, remove the battery and store in a cool place. Also ensure that the battery is at least 40% charged.
  • Pick your priorities wisely. Playing games will drain more battery than playing games. You should priorities your activities and use battery power efficiently.

The above precautions and help tips if maintained can increase your battery performance to a higher level. Be it power failure or traveling without an A.C. source, your battery is always on the run to provide you with optimum satisfaction levels.

Go Ahead!! Enjoy the milestone of your battery!!

10 do's and dont's for fresh graduates

  1. A colleague can never be your friend.
  2. Don't bitch. Don't get involved in office gossip.
  3. Never say "NO" to a task. There are other ways of saying "no", learn about those.
  4. Honesty is the best policy but it never hurts to be discreet and diplomatic.
  5. Work smart and sell yourself, market yourself. If you've done something, make sure that it's on news that evening.
  6. Be professional in your communication. E.g. Use "I was working on a critical report" instead of  "MS Word pay kaam kar raha tha" (I was working on MS Word).
  7. It's good to be willing to go the extra mile but don't make it a habit. Chalk out your priorities; strike a desired work-life balance.
  8.  Never, never-ever, say anything minutely negative about yourself in a professional setting. You may say a 100 good things, that people will choose to ignore, however, the one bad thing that you let slip, will be held on to, exaggerated and broadcasted via all possible channels.
  9. Being humble will not get you anywhere. This is the worst possible personality trait to possess in a professional setting. Be a little arrogant but don’t be rude, be confident, be defiant if need be. Once you are "the shite" you can be humble. But till then blow your own trumpet to glory.
  10. If you think absolutely hate your job and can't take in anymore, quit, switch, change, bro it's just a job.

State of the mind

Many not few are who dream to get into the Engineering but few not many get the chance to explore the intricacies. Being in engineering for almost 3.5 years now I have a mixed feeling. Even though you get the brand of being among the country’s best it also means you shoulder the responsibility of carrying the tag of Pakistan's cream wherever you go and in whatever you do. The brilliance is expected out of you. It may be an encouraging factor mostly but sometimes it does pressurize the individuals. Little does a fresher know when he enters the big world of engineering. This is a degree of big dreams and aspirations and it takes something out of you to compete with country's best.
